Photo-Way’s basic course is rich and unique in that we cover the technical aspects of how the camera works, while developing the understanding of the visual tools that make up the photographic language, encouraging self expression through photography. The course is aimed at beginners and amateurs– even those who wish to turn professional. The course consists of 14 lessons each lasting three academic hours which include theory and practical lessons, enriching lessons and critique.

1. The camera - fundamental functions that allow control over sharpness and motion.
2. The basic understanding of light.
3. Light measuring, exposure and reciprocity.
4. Basic understanding of digital imaging, the sensor compared to film.
5. White balance and sensitivity (ISO).
6. Exposure modes: Manual, Auto, Semi-auto and how they affect our photography.
7. Digital Artifacts.
8. Filters.
9. Lenses.
10. Perspective.
11. Composition.
12. Exposure to different photographers from different eras.
13. Low light and Night photography.
14. Flash photography.

The course meets once a week between the hours: 19:30-22:00. There are four practical lessons, three of which take place Friday mornings, the fourth being night photography. After each practical lesson there is a critique lesson in which feedback is given pertaining to technique and idea.

The course instructor is Alan Chapelski, a native English speaker. Alan is a professional industrial advertising and food photographer with 20 years experience. Click here to visit his website.
